While Winnipeg awaits the outcome of the serious negotiations between the current owners of the Atlanta Thrashers and True North Sports and Entertainment, an amusing sideshow has developed via Twitter. A lurking figure called "The Balkan" was hailed as a potential investor for the Thrashers, and his legend has grown on Twitter. Recently he was outed as JB Smith, and his credibility is, too many, to be questioned.
You can't help but chuckle at some of the innuendo going on. When Jim Balsillie was rampaging his way towards NHL ownership, he ruffled many-a-feather with his aggressive tactics and not playing by the league rules. My guess is that Gary Bettman and company would be even less enamoured with a guy whose handle is better suited to be a Scooby Doo villain.
